Welcome to this Trance kick tutorial where I’ll be showing you exactly how I create my kicks from scratch using Kick 2.

Creating your own trance kicks can be very difficult when you’re unsure where to start and what sort of clicks and Kick tails to use to create them.

How often do you find yourself trying to create your own kicks but find that they’re not quite as punchy or as powerful as the ones that you have in your sample packs?

Well in this tutorial I’ll be showing you exactly how I create Punchy Trance Kicks, Heavy Tech Trance Kicks and Hard Trance Kicks but this will also show you how you can create kicks in your own preferred style with your own alterations to suit your tracks perfectly.

The Trance Kicks tutorial covers:

How to create a kick from scratch.

The anatomy of the kick drum and understanding how one is built.

How to make Punchy Kicks, Heavy Kicks, Harder Trance Kicks or any Kick of your choice.

How to get your clicks to fit with your sub frequency.

How to shape your clicks so they don’t cause issues with the sub frequency of your kick.

How to overcome phase issues when building your kicks.

Shaping the tail of the kick to suit your taste and tracks.

How to make similar kicks to your favourite kicks.

Tips for gaining more control over your Trance Kicks.

How to create your own clicks.

How to change the character of your kick through harmonics.

EQ, Levelling, Limiting, Compression, Effects and processing.

How to determine the key of your kicks.

Exporting your kicks for high-quality audio files.

How to create different variations from the same kick.

Adding different distortion and saturation for different outcomes.

Balancing out your kick drum for different outcomes.

I don’t use Kick 2. Can I still learn from this video?

You can still learn how Kicks are created and then transfer this knowledge to your preferred kick synthesiser, but the kicks are made in Kick 2 in this tutorial. Your kick synthesiser may have more or less features to choose from, but the principles are the same.

What software synths or plugins are used in this video?

  • Kick 2 (Please note you could use another Kick Synthesiser, but the kicks are made in Kick 2 in this tutorial. Your kick synthesiser may have more or less features to choose from, but the principles are the same)
  • LFO Tool (Used to analyse the Kick, but you can use any analyser of your choice or just export the audio)
  • Logic Pro X (Used to load up Kick 2 & Export. Any DAW of your choice will work for this.)

Great tutorial

Sometimes you get that moment where the kick your using really doesn’t gel with the track. At times like that, your probably best just designing your own kick to fit what your looking for. This is where this tutorial on Kick 2 comes in. This is a really in-depth tutorial to enable you to make kicks more suited to the rest of your track.
