How To EQ

AM Studios – EQ Tutorial

Welcome to this EQ tutorial were I will be going over one of the most powerful tools in any DAW! This tutorial is all about the parametric EQ, how to use it and all its features.

In this tutorial, I’ll be showing you typically where frequencies for common Trance sounds sit in the frequency spectrum, and how to effectively use the EQ to help the sounds sit better in the mix. I will be showing you how to EQ sounds such as a Kick, Bass, Sub, Pad, Pluck & Percussion loop.

We will also be looking at sounds that sit in the same frequency range, and best practices to make them fit together nicely through the use of Mid-Side EQ and other EQ techniques.

I will be going into great detail about all the different types of EQ bands, Slopes, Q’s and when certain bands would be used in different scenarios.

I’ll also be showing you how to add certain characteristics to sounds through the use of the AM Studios – Frequency Chart (Included With Purchase)

I will also be letting you know my most used technique to allow space for your low-end frequencies such as your kick drum to punch through!

EQ tutorial
This tutorial was bought as an add on to the full trance tutorial that I purchased. As with all of Allans tutorials they are full of excellent information that is clear and easy to understand. I now have a much better understanding of EQing. I highly recommend any of Allans tutorials as they have helped me to progress to a much better level of production in such a sort space of time. I started as a complete beginner and have managed to produce a track that I’m quite happy with for someone at my level and it’s all thanks to these tutorials 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Thank you Allan you’re a legend!

From mud to magic!
I had been struggling with EQ before I watched this video and kept ending up with tracks that either sounded flat and lifeless or wobbly and distorted. What a difference this tutorial made. Allan makes it very easy and straightforward to understand the basic principles of EQ and shows you - with just some very small yet effective tweaks - how to get much cleaner and punchier sounding music. I like the way Allan constantly encourages you to use your ears, listen to everything in context, and avoid rules or absolutes. In this way he his helping you to develop a natural feel for the music. Highly recommended and definitely nothing comparable on Youtube in my opinion, especially if you want to make trance music.

Tutorials that produce Eureka moments!
Firstly, I thought i could throw a track together before i came across Allans tutorials. So I purchased the mixdown tutorials first as I felt this was the last thing I needed to get right. My word, honestly, my music transformed literally overnight. But i felt i needed more knowledge still, so I purchased the EQ tutorial. I watched it and took a few things from it and put them into practice. All good, but still i wasnt seperating frequencies enough to create space. Fast forward, I have producers block, and I caught Allan re-advertising the EQ tutorial on Facebook so I gave it another look and paid extra attention to mid side EQ. BANG!!! it clicked. The subject is quite hard to get your head around at first but like all of Allans tutorials, they are well explained, in depth with no mucking about. All of a sudden my mixes have space. Ive been at this game for 25 years (10 Semi pro) and there is a wealth of tutorials on the internet but nothing comes close to how good these really are. No adverts or self promotion just straight into what you want to learn. Every detail is explained and shown in pure clear HD, with nothing held back. I found most producers dont really want to give away secrets and you miss vital info. So In summary people, dont waste time on youtube, spend a little cash (usually discounted) on some of Allans tutorials or a complete bundle. Even now I feel I need to purchase a bundle as there is always stuff to learn that ive missed. They are worth there weight in gold. Happy producing, you will not be disappointed!!!
